General viewing of the Problem Gambling Self-Help website (“Website”) as an unregistered user is subject to acceptance of the following terms of use (“Terms of Use”). Please read these Terms of Use carefully. By continuing to use the Website, you (“You”, with references to “Your” as applicable) agree that You have accepted these Terms of Use.

The Website may provide information and various self-help tools for problem gamblers and their concerned significant others, as well as collaboration and communication forums for these users as well as professional users. If You choose to participate in the collaboration and communication forums, You will be asked to agree to a further terms of use specific to those activities (including becoming a registered user of the Website, and related to the use of mobile applications and Community Forum discussion boards).

Server Log Information that CAMH Gathers

CAMH web servers generate logs that may contain information about computers or devices used to access the Portal website or about general activity on the Portal website, such as the following:

  • Internet address of computer or device
  • Type of browser or other application used
  • The operating system of the computer or device
  • Web pages requested by the user
  • Referring Web pages
  • Time spent on the Website

CAMH Web server administrators may produce summary reports from these logs and share that information with Portal website content managers. Website content managers typically use this information in aggregate to understand what pages are popular, how users are navigating to and within their site, and when their sites are used most frequently. While information in server logs generally cannot be used to identify individuals, You should be aware that such information inadvertently may be captured.

Cookies and Login Security

Cookies are small pieces of data stored by a Web browser on Your computer. Cookies are often used to retain information about preferences and pages You have visited. For example, when You visit some sites on the Web, You might see a “Welcome Back” message. The first time You visited the site a cookie was probably stored on Your computer; when You return, the cookie is read again. Use of the Problem Gambling website (“Website”), mobile application (“Mobile Application”) or community forum including discussion board(s) (“Community Forum”)by you (“You”, with references to and “Your” as applicable) is subject to acceptance of the following terms of use Terms of Use”).Please read these carefully, and indicate Your acceptance of them on the registration page by clicking on the box that indicates You have read and agree to the Terms of Use.

We will refer to the Website, Mobile Application and Community Forum together as the “CAMH Media”. The Community Forum is designed and intended for people who currently reside in the Canadian province of Ontario. The information may not be relevant to, or accurate for, people residing outside this province.

Appropriateness of Participation

As a condition of Your participation in the CAMH Media programs and activities, You agree to support CAMH’s goals of civility and privacy. Postings in the Community Forum are governed by the Community Forum Etiquette Statement and must be appropriate. Any posting that demonstrate elements of the following will be deleted by the CAMH moderator, in his or her sole discretion:

  • Crude, profane or salacious language >
  • Discrimination on any basis, including physical or mental disability, race, creed, colour, sex, country of origin>
  • Is abusive or insulting to others >
  • Is harassing, hateful or disrespectful >
  • Is obscene or offensive>
  • Does not reflect the purpose of the Community Forum set out above or the theme of the specific forum to which you are posting>
  • Advertises websites, products or services without prior written approval from the staff of the Community Forum>
  • Discloses the identity or personal information (including personal health information) of any person without their express consent>
  • Might cause harm to someone’s computer or communication system>
  • Solicits for the purpose of research or publication without the prior written approval of the staff of the Community Forum>
  • Is protected by copyright, unless you have received the written consent of the author and/or publisher and prior written approval of the staff of the Forum>

The posting of objectionable material may be grounds for revocation of Your access to the CAMH Media.

Views Expressed are Those of Users

The CAMH Media provides various self-help tools for problem gamblers and their concerned significant others, and, in the case of the Community Forum may provide a venue for collaboration and communication for these users as well as problem gambling treatment and allied health professionals. The purpose of the Community Forum is to create and sustain an online community dedicated to providing an opportunity for users to exchange ideas, provide information, and facilitate general dialogue and opinions. As such, the content appearing in a Community Forum does not necessarily reflect the views of CAMH, and CAMH assumes no responsibility nor liability for the materials found in the Community Forum nor for any claims, damages or losses resulting from any use of this service or the materials contained therein.

Abusive Expressions or Inadvertent Disclosure by Others

CAMH is not responsible for the content of any postings by its users within the Community Forum. You specifically acknowledge that CAMH is not liable for the defamatory, negligent, inaccurate, offensive, or illegal conduct of users, links, or third parties and the risk of harm or injury from the foregoing rests entirely with You.

You agree that while CAMH does not monitor the CAMH Media 24/7. CAMH may use Your IP address and contact police in situations where it determines in its sole discretion that a posting in the CAMH Media constitutes a significant risk of serious bodily harm to You or others.

CAMH may also contact You by email for administrative purposes related to Your use of the CAMH Media.

Server Log Information that CAMH Gathers

CAMH web servers generate logs that may contain information about computers or devices used to access the Website or about general activity on the CAMH Media, such as the following:

CAMH Web server administrators also use logs for error identification and tracking, as well as audit purposes.

Cookies and Login Security

Cookies are small pieces of data stored by a Web browser on a user’s computer. Cookies are often used to retain information about preferences and pages a user has visited. For example, when a user visits some sites on the Web, You might see a “Welcome Back” message. The first time You visited the site a cookie was probably stored on Your computer; upon Your return, the cookie is read again. Cookies are used so You will not have to repeatedly enter user names and passwords when You go to different parts of the Website.

CAMH Retention of Data

CAMH will indefinitely store all data contained on the CAMH Media for internal purposes. For greater certainty, You understand that CAMH will store all posts posted by users to the Community Forum, including any posts which have been deleted from public view (either by CAMH or as requested by the user).

The ProblemGambling.ca Community Forum is a discussion board for people affected by gambling problems. Its purpose is to be a safe and encouraging space where people can share experiences and information that support coping and recovery.

To foster a safe and supportive environment, we require that you:

  • Show consideration and respect in all posts
  • Think about how your posts might be perceived by others
  • Not post content that is inappropriate or offensive
  • Read and follow the rules and guidelines below

Above all, we encourage you to contribute positively and frequently so this forum is an active and supportive community.

Only One Account per Member

Members of the Community Forum may only have one account. If you create or use multiple accounts, all your accounts may be suspended and you may be banned from any further use of the Community Forum.

Privacy

We advise you to use an anonymous email address and nickname when registering on ProblemGambling.ca. Please be aware that your nickname will be visible to other users. To further protect your privacy, we ask you to choose carefully what information you share with others via the Community Forum, to minimize the possibility of it identifying you.

Moderation

The role of Community Forum moderators is to assist in the smooth functioning of the Forum and to offer information from time to time. Moderators do not review posts before they appear on the Community Forum.

While Community Forum moderators will attempt to be aware of posts that go against the rules and etiquette set out above, they do not review Forum content in real time. You are encouraged to play an active part in the health of the Community Forum community. The part you can play includes taking responsibility for your interactions with other Community Forum members and reporting any problematic posts and activity to Community Forum moderators.

Rights of the Forum’s Owner

The PGIO reserves the right in its sole discretion to edit, delete or move posts and to take steps to uphold the purpose of the Community Forum. These steps may include suspending or banning members from the Community Forum.
